InAugust2009anewMemorandumofUnderstandingwassignedbetweenTheUniversityofMelbournetheFacultyofTheVictorianCollegeoftheArtsandtheVictorianCollegeoftheArtsSecondarySchool.ThisMOUsetstherelationshipinplaceforthenextfiveyears,cementstheuniqueroleofVCASSwithintheVCAandoursharedgoalsinhighqualitymusicanddanceeducationandtraining.Italsoprovidesbothstructuralandfinancialcertaintymovingforwardaswevacatefromthissiteandtheuniversityundergoeschangesbroughtaboutbyamalgamation.
CentraltothisdocumentwasthevisionofFoundingDirectorLentonParrthattheVCAwillhaveasecondaryschoolwhichprovideshighqualityeducationandtrainingfortalentedyoungdancersandmusiciansregardlessofsocio-economicstatus.

Thearrangementindanceisslightlymorecomplicated.Themissionofthesecondaryschoolistoprovideaninternationallyrecognisedtrainingprogramthatwillprepareouryoungdancersforcareersinthedanceindustryandtomeetthismissionweverydeliberatelydonotencourageourstudentstoentercompetitions.Thetraininginvolvedinpreparingthemforcompetitionsislikelytoconflictwiththetrainingofferedatthecollegeandcouldalsoincreasethepossibilityofoverworkingthestudentsandthuscreatinginjuries.
VCASecondarySchoolisthereforenotacompetitionschoolbutisabsolutelydedicatedtothelongtermdevelopmentandtrainingofitsdancestudents.TothisendweoffersomeofthefinestdanceteacherswithInternationalreputationsthatitispossibletohave.However,weareawarethatsomeofourstudentsdowishtoentercompetitionsandpermissionmustbesoughtforthisfromtheHeadoftheSecondarySchoolDanceProgramwhowilllistenandgiveadviseinthebestinterestoftheindividualstudent'sdevelopment.
PermissiontocontinueanydanceactivitiesoutsideofthetrainingorelectivesofferedbyusmustbegrantedbyourHeadofDance.Therealityoftheenrolmenttoourschoolisthatstudentsmustleavetheircurrentdanceschool.Thisisnotnegotiableandunsupportedparticipationisseenasabreachofenrolment.
